Both Botox and dermal fillers offer a number of physical and psychological benefits for both men and women and are an ideal way to improve your appearance and look younger without surgery. However, it’s important to remember that even though Botox is a quick treatment with quick results, it will generally only last you between 3-6 months. Luckily, we have some tips for you if you are looking to get more out of your treatments, make your Botox last longer, and extend the life of your fillers. Keep reading to find out more!
The fact that too much sun exposure can damage your skin is nothing new. However, protecting your skin from harmful UV rays is more important than ever after getting Botox, so you can avoid causing additional wrinkles that you are trying to prevent. It’s also important to avoid heat lamps, tanning beds, and direct exposure to the sun for at least 24 hours after your Botox injection, as these heat sources can cause inflammation and swelling.
SDBotox tells us more on why it’s important to protect your skin after a Botox injection:
“Following a Botox treatment, inflammation from the sun’s UVA and UVB rays can also wreak havoc on your skin. It’s essential then to wear sunscreen to protect you and your delicate skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Don’t forget sunglasses to prevent squinting and hats for an added layer of protection.”
While we all know that keeping hydrated is essential for our overall health, it has also been proven to help maintain Botox injections. Not only d0 you need to drink water to extend the life of your botox, but it’s also important to hydrate your skin externally with topical treatments such as hyaluronic acid.
Dr. Semone Rochlin explains more on the importance of keeping hydrated after receiving Botox onDr.Rochlin.com
“You can extend the benefits of Botox and dermal fillers by making sure you are properly hydrated all the time. Hydration is necessary for overall health: it helps maintain steady body temperature, keeps joints lubricated (something we’ll notice with age), and helps eliminate waste more easily.”
Last but not least, exercising your facial muscles is another great way to extend the life of both Botox and dermal fillers. While you shouldn’t immediately massage or apply pressure directly on the injection site, gentle movement can help, as well as gentle facial exercises.
BHSkin Dermatology tells us more about the benefits of exercising your facial muscles after your procedure:
“You can exercise these muscles by making various expressions such as smiling, grinning, or frowning. In addition, not only will your fillers last longer, but they may also show up sooner. A study revealed that 68% of participants believed that facial exercises made muscle relaxation and wrinkle reduction occur faster following Botox.”
