Dermal Fillers

what are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers plump up the skin, offering a non-surgical solution for loss of volume, sagging and deepening folds. They can also be used to produce contoured cheekbones, added to the chin and/or jaw lines to tighten, lift and balance the lower face. At LYFT Medical Aesthetics, my goal is to give you the youthful, even appearance you desire. That means identifying and balancing the right treatment options to deliver the most effective outcome possible.

how does dermal fillers work?

Most modern dermal fillers are made with Hyaluronic Acid (HA), something that occurs naturally in your skin.

As we age, our natural HA production decreases. This results in a loss of volume and elasticity in the skin. The visible outcome is an increase in wrinkles and folds.

Injecting HA under the skin fills the space, plumping and smoothing the treated area. HA also attracts water, which replenishes moisture in your skin.

Better still, recent research suggests that HA-based fillers may even encourage natural collagen production in your skin.

Preparing For Your Facial Filler Injections

Medications that act as blood thinners, including Aspirin, NSAIDs, and muscle relaxants, can increase bruising from any cosmetic injections and should be avoided prior to treatment. In some cases, this may be a serious concern. Discussing what medications you’re using is an important part of the initial consultation.

Avoid cigarettes and alcohol for 48 hours prior to treatment.

Arrive with the treatment area washed and free of makeup.

The Procedure Itself

Treatment with dermal fillers only takes about 10 - 20 minutes, depending on the number of injections required. I choose fillers with Lidocaine so the injections are “self-numbing”. Overall, the procedure is quick and relatively painless.

Follow-Up Sessions

The results of your dermal filler treatment will generally last 6-12 months. During that time your body will gradually and naturally absorb the filler gel. Follow-up sessions can be booked as the results slowly fade.

Setting Expectations

All new clients at LYFT Medical Aesthetics start with a free consultation.

During our initial meeting, I can learn about your unique needs, your concerns and your desired results. In response, I will tell you what results you can expect. Fillers, used alone or balanced with the smoothing effects of Botox, may be an effective way to achieve your desired results. Before we start any treatment, we will set expectations, together.

Patient education & safety are my top priority.

Finally, I’ll let you know what to do and what to avoid immediately after treatment to help maximize your results.

DERMAL FILLERS RECOVERY TIMELINE

First 6 hours:
Avoid excessive touching or massaging the treated areas. Do not scratch or pick at the injection site. You may apply an ice pack, very gently, to soothe mild discomfort and reduce swelling. For stronger pain relief I recommend Tylenol (acetaminophen).

For 24 - 48 Hours:

Only gentle pressure while washing or applying makeup.
